If you see a "check engine" or a "service engine soon" light in your instrument cluster; your car has stored a diagnostic trouble code. This means the computer system on your vehicle has detected a problem with the various systems it controls. Your car has many different sensors that monitor the various vehicle systems. If the trouble code light has been illuminated your vehicle enters into "limp mode" this means it is running on a predetermined program that causes poor mileage and increased emissions. An engine trouble code reader is an easy to use tool. All 1996 and newer vehicles utilize a "D" style plug-in connector that connects to the code reader. On most vehicles the connector is located at the driver's compartment. Once the code reader is plugged in you can retrieve trouble codes the engine computer has stored in its memory. These codes are the same codes the dealer and repair shops use to replace sensors and clear codes. This video contains basic a testing procedure using an automotive trouble code scanner as a code retrieval tool. Correct computer system function is essential for your car's engine to operate properly. Many engine run-ability problems can be related to a weak or failing sensor producing a diagnostic trouble code. Problems can range from hard cold engine starting, low power and stalling while driving. This video contains visual information designed to aid a trouble codes retrieval test using a engine code scanner.

The Ready-or-Not (RoN) is a combination OBD II scanner and test tool. As a fully functional PC-based scan tool, RoN is able to read/clear trouble codes and display sensor data identical to the popular ElmScan 5 series of scan tools. As a test tool, RoN works independent of a PC to quickly determine if a vehicle’s monitors are set and ready for emissions testing.

All OBDII compliant vehicles have what are known as “monitors”. Monitors are a series of tests the engine ECU performs to determine whether different emissions related systems are working properly. Clearing trouble codes (after a repair, for example) resets these monitors and it may take considerable driving time for each monitor to set again. Most states will not allow a vehicle to be tested for emissions until the majority of these tests have been completed by the engine ECU.

Simply connect RoN to your vehicle and it will instantly display which monitors are set and whether or not your vehicle is ready for emissions testing. RoN features both visual and audio confirmations that alert the driver the instant the vehicle is ready for emissions testing.

Saves time and frustration by indicating when a vehicle is ready for emissions testing.

Buying a used car? Remember that the check engine light can be cleared, masking potential problems. Use RoN to verify that the majority of monitors have been completed by the engine ECU.

The Ready-or-Not works out of the box, however it can also be programmed to adapt to any existing or future state emissions program. The configuration utility supplied with the test tool comes with a large number of presets, covering all current state emissions programs
